Icom UK have now provided the event organisers with a mixture of marine and commercial radio transceivers to help the officials in marshalling race activity for decade.

Did you know that probably the world’s most famous sailing regatta in the world, Cowes Week starts in just a few days time? Can you imagine how excited Icom UK are because we are celebrating a decade as Official Suppliers of Radio Communication Equipment to the event?

Cowes Week, which runs from 31st July to 7th August 2010 plays a key part in the British sporting summer calendar. It is one of the UK’s longest running and most successful sporting events having been staged since 1826. It now stages up to 40 daily races for over 1,000 boats and is the largest sailing regatta of its kind in the world. Cowes Week is a fusion of many exciting elements, with its great mix of competitive sailing and social activities. The 8,500 competitors range from Olympic and world class professionals to weekend sailors. In excess of 100,000 spectators come to watch the sailing, enjoy the parties and live entertainment, and to experience the unique atmosphere.

Icom UK provides the event organisers, Cowes Week Ltd, with a mixture of marine and commercial radio transceivers to help the officials in marshalling race activity. The equipment supplied is vital to provide communication between the race officers to co-ordinate race starts, set courses and marshal the competitors. The radios are also used for communicating with other vessels (including commercial shipping and ferries) and the coastguard.

Ian Lockyer, Icom UK’ s Marketing Manager said “Icom UK is thrilled to be celebrating a decade of association with this prestigious event. This is going to be another fantastic week and we wish all the competitors the best of luck”.
