A teenage sailor from Staffordshire has travelled to Croatia to represent Great Britain in the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship.

Jade Rogers, 16, has said she is aiming to gain hands-on experience for other sailing events over a podium place at the RS:X 8.5 windsurfing class event in Zadar.

The aspiring Olympian from Cheadle spoke of how privileged she felt to be representing Britain at the sailing event – which will bring together 362 of the world’s top young sailors.

The event gets under way on Saturday ahead of July 15’s final race, with Rogers saying she aims to get a lot out of the event to prepare for future regattas.

The member of Carsington Sailing Club added: “I’m not entirely sure what conditions to expect, although I have heard that it is quite light winds which will make it tricky.

“It’s going to be testing, but to be honest, I’m just looking forward to it and am going to take it as it comes.”
