Lifeboats have today resumed the search for two people feared missing after their boat overturned off Lowestoft yesterday afternoon
A man has died and two
others are feared missing after a speedboat overturned in the sea near Ness
Point, Lowestoft.
Search and rescue
crews are continuing their efforts today after a man and an overturned boat
were spotted in the sea at around 2pm yesterday.
A man’s body was
pulled from the water shortly after the report but he was pronounced dead at
3pm.
Two other people are
still believed to be missing.
A Suffolk constabulary spokesman said: “The
police helicopter and an RAF search and rescue helicopter have been used to
carry out searches of the water to assist the coastguard and see if anyone else
could be spotted but there have been no further sightings.”
The white 18ft
speedboat was recovered last night following searches of the coastline and
brought ashore around 7pm.
Debris from the boat
was also discovered, including two buoyancy aids, a seat and other equipment.
Waveney MP Peter Aldous told EveningNews24:
“This is a tragic event and my thoughts are very much with the family and
friends of those involved. It is also important to recognise the efforts of all
the emergency services who have attended this incident.”
RNLI lifeboats and a
RAF helicopter will continue looking for the missing crew today.
