Coastguards and police are attempting to locate a man who was believed to have been onboard a yacht that was found grounded in Devon

A sailor is believed to be missing after his yacht was found washed ashore at Seaton Harbour in Devon on Friday morning.

Coastguard crews received a call from a member of the public at around 10am, alerting them to a 25ft Hurley 20 aground at Culverhole Point.

Signs of recent occupancy and activity onboard have raised concerns that the owner of Louise may have gone overboard.

Lifeboat and helicopter crews from Lyme Regis and Sidmouth were both involved in extensive searches of the area but were unable to find anything.

Coastguard Steven Mann said: “Given the uncertainty of the situation, we are very keen to hear from the owner of this yacht if he is safe and well. In the meantime we will continue to carry out a detailed search of the area where the vessel is likely to have drifted.

Searches continued until 11.30am on Saturday but have now been called off and enquiries into the possible whereabouts of the yachtsman will continue.

Police have not released the name of the sailor at this stage.
