Princess Anne watched races and presented winning team with a trophy

HRH the Princess Royal, President of the RYA, today joined young sailors out on the water, watching them compete as part of Cowes Week.

Princess Anne saw youngsters from sailing clubs across the island celebrating the skills they learnt through the RYA OnBoard scheme, and watched a number of races such as the relay race from the shore.

Princess Anne presented the day’s winning team – which was Royal Victoria YC – with a special OnBoard trophy. An individual award was given to Milo Wrenn from Brading Haven YC after he won two of the day’s races.

“We are so happy to have won,” said nine-year-old Alex. “It was really exciting to meet Princess Anne and tell her how long we have been sailing. She watched all my capsizes!”

11-year-old Daisy, from the Sea View Sailing Club team, said: “I had a really good day. My favourite part was the last race because it was really exciting and we were all trying to sail the very best we could.”
