Knox-Johnston launches Haven Academy
Innovative new funding scheme for boating enthusiasts
Sir Robin Knox-Johnston has announced the launch of an innovative new funding scheme for boating enthusiasts.
The Haven Academy offers funding of up to £3,000, provided by leading boat insurance specialists Haven Knox-Johnston, for projects that fall into four different categories: New build or restoration; Boating innovation; Boating research; and Boating environment.
Speaking at the press launch Sir Robin said: “There are plenty of awards for people who succeed – but how many good ideas are being missed because they don’t have the funding? So instead of saying ‘well done – you’ve had a good idea that worked,’ the Haven Academy is here to give good ideas some financial help to make them work. So if you’ve got a good idea, whether it’s some new gizmo, a new piece of kit – or even plans to build otter holts on a river bank – we need to hear from you!”
Sir Robin will chair a panel of judges comprising leading figures across the boating and maritime community which will select the best applications received by 30th November 2010. Bursaries will be awarded at the 2011 Liverpool Boat Show.
Projects can be submitted for funding by individuals, groups, businesses or charities. Full details and application forms are available at www.boatinsure.co.uk/academy.
