Skipper dies after falling into marina
A man who fell into a marina and became trapped between a fishing boat and a quay wall has died from his injuries
Scottish trawler skipper James Reid has died in hospital after falling at Royal Quays, North Shields on Friday night.
It is believed that Reid, skipper of
Horizon II FR24, was in the water for some time before the Tynemouth RNLI crew found him.
RNLI spokesman Adrian Don said: “Once on the scene, a
volunteer crew member swam between the dock wall and the trawler where
the man
was trapped and got him closer to the lifeboat into which he was
recovered.
“He was then passed into the care of paramedics who took him to hospital.”
Reid was in a critical condition and passed away soon after his admittance.
The incident is now in the hands of the Marine Accident Investigation Branch.
