Stag party rescued from sinking boat
‘Floating wine tasting room' began taking on water
A stag party was rescued from a 45ft boat when she began taking on water in San Francisco Bay on Friday night.
The group were just 20 minutes into their wine tasting trip around Alcatraz Island when the boat hit something in the water, leaving a 1ft hole in the side of the boat.
The captain tried to steer the boat back to the pier but the rudder failed and she started sinking 300ft from the pier.
Matthew Rice was on board the boat. “We were coming around Alcatraz checking it out and all of a sudden it was, like, boom, just a big jolt,” he said. “The next thing we knew the Coast Guard boats came in and got us off.”
All 22 passengers and crew were safely rescued.
