Watch: five fishermen rescued off the Norwegian coast
Watch the dramatic footage of the trawler capsizing in freezing waters.
Five fishermen were plucked from the icy waters off the Lofotodden coast in Norway on Monday (04 January) when their boat sank in rough seas.
The 330 Rescue Squadron swiftly came to the rescue of the crew members after the Norwegian Veritas ship started sinking.
The five men were thrown overboard into the freezing cold waters of Lofotodden, located above the Arctic Circle. The Norwegian coast guard helicopter Sea King quickly came to their rescue, saving them all.
It is thought that a fishing net might have become tangled into the trawler’s propeller, causing it to lose power and drift near the rocks before capsizing, however the vessel’s captain admitted he was unsure of the exact reason for the dramatic accident.
