Boating visitors to the UK’s capital can look forward to improved facilities and more moorings according to the Waterfront London exhibition. Planners are having to be increasingly creative to meet future housing needs and its forgotten waterways and industrial wastelands are top of the hit list for redevelopment.

The east end is leading the way with a new marina planned next to Canary Wharf, and moorings in the Lower Lea Valley park, part of the Olympic village developments. In Islington new moorings for narrowboats are planned in the City Road Basin, whilst on the Grand Union canal, moorings will form part of the large Alperton Village development. This should be good news for those looking for moorings in the capital, both for visitors or longer term.

Other developments for watersports enthusiasts include a proposal for an extreme surf centre at Silvertown Quays, and a new canoeing centre in Chelsea.

The exhibition is at New London Architecture until 23rd February.
