Aberystwyth’s 150-berth marina Y Lanfa is the first in the UK to go on the open market since 2008

The owners of Y Lanfa marina in Aberystwyth have put the site on the market for £2.5m.

The 150-berth marina is believed to be the first site in the UK to go on the open market since 2008.

Merlin Homes, who own the marina, have decided to sell it to a more experienced operator who can develop the business.

Colliers International is dealing with the sale of the 23-acre site.

John Rushby from Colliers International, said: “The reason for the sale is the owner is a property developer who developed the wider basin and shore side area.

“He is not an experienced marina operator but has built trade to a point where it is time to sell to a more experienced operator who can develop the business.

“Marinas tend to be sold off market, so when they do go up for sale on the open market they attract significant interest.”

The site, which has planning permission for 40 more berths, cost £10m to build and opened in 1995.
