Private developers to spend £1.2m on improvements at Port Edgar Marina over the next five years

The future of Port Edgar Marina in
Scotland has been secured after a private firm announced plans to invest £1.2m
in improvements.

Port Edgar Holding Ltd has agreed a new
30-year lease with the City of Edinburgh Council, starting from April 2014.

Edinburgh Leisure announced it would
stop managing the marina at the end of March 2012, due to it being too
expensive.

Port Edgar Holding Ltd’s Russell Aitken
said: “This is an exciting development for this much-loved marina and I’m
delighted that we’ve been able to secure a lease which will ensure continued
investment in this sailing facility.”

Improvement works will include
dredging, which aims to make the marina less tide dependent and able to
accommodate larger vessels.

City of Edinburgh Council’s culture and
sport convener Richard Lewis said: “We’re very much looking forward to working
with Port Edgar Holding Ltd as the new lease holder and the council will be
working closely with them over the next few months to finalise the detail in
advance of the handover.”
