Watching the clock has taken on a new meaning as CharityStars auction house opens bids on British Sailor Ian Walker’s unique Schaffhausen watch
The unique Schaffhausen Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph ‘Ocean Racer’ watch has accompanied Walker around the world in the Volvo Ocean Race.
Walker, who is skipper for Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing, is currently eight points clear in the race and could make history as the first British skipper to win the overall title.
The winning bidder will also get the “opportunity to experience the race as a member of the crew during the finale in Gothenburg, Sweden”, according to a CharityStars spokesperson.
CharityStars said in a statement: “Whilst in Gothenburg they will participate in a sailing race on board Azzam, the Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing boat, and receive the one-of-a-kind timepiece from skipper Walker himself.”
Walker supports the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, whose patrons include a number of top athletes, including Edwin Moses and Boris Becker.
The watch is worth just under £10,000 and bidding starts at £7,500.
