The Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA) has announced that from 31 January 2001, it will be illegal for marine electronics manufacturers to sell a non-DSC VHF set for marine use. Together with their range of GMDSS handheld radios, Simrad has one of the most extensive ranges of GMDSS radios available on the market and as a company, have become experts in this specialist area of legislation for navigation equipment.
With GMDSS legislation currently at the forefront of most leisure boat user’s minds, Simrad will be presenting the RT1400 VHF radio which, having received full Type Approval meets all standards set down by the MCA as well as setting a few of its own. The RT1400 includes a matching Digital Selective Calling (DSC) controller offering Class D Type Approval at a highly competitive price.
Simrad was the first company in the UK to offer a Class D type approved VHF with the introduction of the RS8400. The RS8400 has a Distress Call feature providing an international GMDSS integrated into the VHF radiotelephone. It has all the functions of a normal VHF with the option of a separate Class D DSC controller.
