British duo set to take top honours
Ben Ainslie and Adrian Stead duo stand Barlo Plastics in good stead for the second regatta in the Clean Marine Winter Series 2001 that starts today
Six boats representing four nations will compete today, February 16, at the three-day second regatta of the Clean Marine IC 45 Winter Series 2001, organized by the Club de Mar Mallorca. Having claimed a convincing victory last month at the opening regatta of the IC 45 (formerly Corel 45) Winter Series 2001, Adrian Stead (tactician) will be looking to continue Barlo Plastics’ success in the event.
Barlo Plastics IC 45, one of two British entries, will be joined for the second event of this three regatta series by helmsman Ben Ainslie, the Sydney 2000 Laser Class Gold medallist, whose involvement with the One World America’s Cup Challenge prevented him from attending this first Winter Series regatta in Palma.
Commenting on the forthcoming challenge Stead said, ‘The first event in Palma proved to be a good regatta to get back into the swing of things and of course it was great to secure our first victory of the season. I’m looking forward to sailing with Ben Ainslie for the first time on the IC 45 on our return to Palma. We’ll be joined as well by Toby Iles and Stuart Childerley from the Barlo Plastics Mumm 36 and the weekend’s performance will also be boosted by America’s Cup sailor Chris Main (Nippon 2000 team) who will be on mainsheet.’
Adrian Stead and his team aboard Barlo Plastics, began their Admiral’s Cup campaign in style with an emphatic win at the first regatta of the Clean Marine Winter Series and this weekend all eyes will be on the Barlo Plastics IC 45 to see if they can maintain their impressive boat handling and speed. Seven races will take place from 16th – 18th February, with racing set to commence at 1400 this afternoon.
