Final spin for Australia II
The history-making 12m Australia II will take one last spin off Fremantle tomorrow before leaving for the UK and the America’s Cup Jubilee
John Bertrand and his veteran crew will be going back in time once again on Wednesday 13 June when Australia II takes her last trip in Australian waters before being stripped down and shipped to Tilbury.
The purpose of the outing is to shake out her new sail wardrobe. Campaign funds have stretched to a new mainsail and spinnaker for the America’s Cup Jubilee. As Australia II takes to the water, the logo of the Western Australian Maritime Museum will be billowing above the foredeck of its most precious possession.
On Thursday, her shore crew will pull the rig, stow her container and prepare for the long voyage to Tilbury Docks.
