Eight fire applicances were called to a blaze at Marine Projects this afternoon

Firefighters were called out early this afternoon to a fire at Marine Projects’ yard in Plymouth, UK.

Eight fire appliances attended the blaze in a dry dock at the company’s Newport Road facility. Approximately 45 firefighters, 14 of them using breathing aparatus, tackled the situation which was brought under control by mid afternoon.

Early reports indicate that a luxury yacht has been severely damaged and a single storey 50mx200m building has been affected by heat and smoke. As yet, no cause has been given for the fire, though emergency services at the scene say sprinklers at the factory helped to contain the blaze.

Marine Projects has a workforce of 1,080 and manufactures Princess motor yachts and sports cruisers, Moody sailing cruisers and Sigma performance sailboats.
