Competition launched to win £5,000 for sporting ideas, clubs and equipment

Competitive sailors and watersports enthusiasts are being offered an opportunity to fulfill their dreams and experience exercise to the full, awarding £5,000 to a deserving winner every month.

The funding scheme sponsored by the Mars Refuel drink fund was re-launched in April this year to help encourage sport lovers to either begin or continue their hobby. Support is offered to applicants who are struggling to afford equipment, travel costs or need to improve their training grounds and club-houses.

Previous year’s winners include Ulley Sailing Club (pictured) in June 2010, who were able to keep their club up and running after flooding damaged their HQ.

Mark Burkitt, committee member and sailing instructor, explained: “Due to the flood damage, we understandably lost some members to other clubs. Now, we plan to buy new equipment to attract new members, especially families, to ensure that this community club can keep going for the next generation and beyond.

“We would love people who’ve never tried sailing to come down and give it a go. Thanks to the donation we will have equipment available so all people need to bring is themselves and their enthusiasm! Thanks to the MARS Refuel Drink Fund, the club can keep going for longer.”

The competition is open for all those over the age of 12 years old who are based in the UK and the Republic of Ireland only.
