Mariah Carey said the video starring servicemen and women on board a Royal Navy assault ship ‘made her day'

The crew of HMS Ocean made a spoof video miming in costume to Mariah Carey’s festive tune ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’.

The video, which you can watch above, shows the crew dancing and miming along to the 1994 hit on board the assault ship HMS Ocean.

The idea for the video came about when the crew learned they would be home for Christmas. Mariah Carey’s hit was the perfect song choice, said Lt Kelly Cleeve, “as all we wanted for Christmas was to get back in time to celebrate”.

Mariah Carey saw the video and tweeted: “This is the best thing I’ve ever seen, you guys just made my day! Happy Happy Christmas!!! xOxO to the troops.”

Lt Cleeve explained that the crew had experienced a particularly stressful time and recording the song allowed everyone the opportunity to boost morale.

It took Lt Cleeve and WO Mick Wakeham just two days to film and edit the video.

“It was fun to do, and the result raised many smiles both on and off the ship, so as far as we were concerned – mission accomplished,” she said.

The crew have been on deployment for seven and a half months. Originally HMS Ocean was only due to be away for seven weeks, but she was later deployed to Libya.

“After uncertainty in our programme we are all delighted to be back home for Christmas and are really looking forward to seeing our loved ones again,” said Commanding officer Captain Andrew Betton.
