Watch footage of the Port Lambton boathouse fire

A huge fire broke out in a boat storage facility in Port Lambton, Ontario on Tuesday, destroying around 65 boats and at least four classic cars.

Every one of the 70 firefighters in the town’s five stations were called to the blaze, which was so big it could be seen from both sides of the US-Canada border.

Witnesses report hearing explosions at the St Clair Boathouse before flames engulfed the building, causing millions of dollars in damage.

No injuries have been reported and firefighters were able to save an adjacent facility, which also contained dozens of boats.

Nat Pulizzi, owner of a 41ft boat destroyed in the fire, told The Sarnia Observer: “I guess I don’t have to worry about polishing the boat next spring – I’ll likely be sweeping up what’s leftover in a dust pan.”

Paul Dow, lead investigator with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office, said it could take days of searching through the rubble to determine the cause of the fire.
