Sail past at Southampton Boat Show
Sir Robin Knox-Johnston heads The Times Clipper 2000 Fleet
A special attraction for Press & Preview Day at this year’s Southampton Boat Show on Friday, 15th September at Mayflower Park will be a Sail Past at 1100 by the combined Clipper Ventures fleet including The Times Clipper 2000 boats.
The Sail Past, which takes place exactly one month before the start of The Times Clipper 2000 round-the-world yacht race, will involve the eight Clipper 60ft yachts competing in the race and will be led by record-breaking international yachtsman and Chairman of Clipper Ventures, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston. They will be joined by 10 Clipper Reflex 38’s and 10 Clipper Gemini RIBs, the latest addition to the Clipper fleet. The combined formation will sail past the 32nd Southampton Boat Show in Mayflower Park in an on-water show of star-spinning turns.
Representing their cities, the eight Clipper 60’s include:- Bristol Clipper, Glasgow Clipper, Jersey Clipper, Leeds Clipper, Liverpool Clipper, London Clipper, Plymouth Clipper and Portsmouth Clipper. After the Sail Past, the yachts will then proceed further down Southampton Water where, at 1130, they will commence a crew training race across to Jersey.
The fleet of ten Clipper Reflex 38’s, noted for their high performance, handing and style, are used on an individual basis for management development training, RYA approved courses to improve sailing skills or, as a fleet, for corporate hospitality and regatta events in and around the UK.
Recently launched, the ten Clipper Gemini RIBs are part of Clipper Ventures’ new complete RIB service which offers everything from RIB sales, maintenance and storage, through to charter, corporate events, support craft, team development and RIB consulting.
The Times Clipper 2000 round-the-world yacht race gets underway on Sunday, 15th October from Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth. Over 250 crewmembers from UK and overseas are taking part in the 11-month race which will visit over 16 ports, covering a total distance of over 35,000 miles.
