No sign of the man since Wednesday afternoon

The search for a missing man continues this morning after a yacht was discovered floating untended at sea on Wednesday afternoon.

The crew of the fishing vessel Scotia Star alerted the Coastguard, who towed the abandoned yacht back to harbour.

The man was last seen in Lochranza at around lunchtime. It’s thought he fell overboard off the Isle of Arran some time before the yacht was spotted at 2.20pm.

The Coastguard, Royal Navy and RNLI coordinated their efforts to launch an air, sea and shoreline search was launched yesterday.

“Our teams and the lifeboats have been searching throughout this afternoon in difficult conditions, but we have not been able to find any sign of the missing man,” said Clyde Coastguard watch manager Graeme Watters.

The search for the missing person resumed at first light today.
