Limerick-born playwright Helena Enright is searching for a boat to feature in her new play about the River Shannon in Ireland.
 
A performance is being put together to celebrate the people of Limerick’s real life associations with the river.
 
With the first live performance due in August; the hunt is now on to find a vessel on which the play can be staged.
 
Ms Enright is looking for a more traditional style boat that’s 60ft or larger. It will need to be moored on the River Shannon between August and September.
 
The project requires a fairly empty vessel that can be adapted slightly inside.
 
“The play will be a tapestry of the stories that I have been collecting in relation to the River Shannon for the last year. As our longest river it has a special place in the folklore and literature of the country and I am interested as to how it features in people’s lives today,” said Ms Enright.
 
Performances will run twice daily from 13 August through to 1 September 2014, with no performances on a Tuesday.

The play, part of the Limerick City of Culture 2014 programme, will also be streamed live on a boat on the Hudson River in New York.
