A dry docked boat caught fire yesterday in a Scottish marina following maintenance by the vessel’s owner

An 82ft yacht has been damaged after it caught fire in Caley marina in Inverness on Wednesday afternoon.

The dry docked boat was undergoing maintenance in the cabin when the incident occurred at around 12.30pm.

The 77-year-old owner, who has been refitting the yacht for the past four years, had been hoping to launch her this summer, according to a witness.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze in around 15 minutes and two men were treated for smoke inhalation.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service group manager John MacDonald said: “On arrival fire crews were faced with a developing fire. The Incident Commander immediately committed two breathing apparatus teams to locate and extinguish the fire.

“Firefighters in breathing apparatus extinguished the blaze within 15 minutes using two hose-reel jets and two main jets.”
