Two of the classic ocean racing yachts are being sold to make way for the new generation of Clipper 70s

Sailors can now get their hands on a Clipper Round the World yacht after two were listed for sale with broker Berthon International.

The ocean racing yachts, which have taken dozens of crew around the globe, are being sold to make way for the new generation of Clipper 70s.

The Clipper 68 Ed Dubois designed yacht was the backbone of the Clipper Race fleet from 2005-2012, until the Clipper 70 was introduced in 2013.

Since then, the 68s have primarily been used for training and corporate events.

Clipper is calling the sales a “unique opportunity to own and operate a superb sailing machine.”

Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, who briefed Ed Dubois on the design, said: “I wanted a yacht that could be sailed safely by amateur crews but could also be a good ocean racing boat and it proved extremely successful as far as we were concerned.

“So anyone looking for a good strong rugged boat that’s reliable and easy to sail, that can take anything you throw at it, and the Southern Ocean takes some beating, these are the boats.”

Berthon International has been appointed to sell the 68ft yachts, which have berths for up to 20 crew and come equipped with a comprehensive sail wardrobe by Hyde Sails.

The yachts are available to immediate delivery, ready for the 2015 season, and start from £245,000.
