The four-time gold medallist auctioned off Finn sails from his three Olympic campaigns

Sir Ben Ainslie’s Olympic Finn sails have raised just under £2,000 for the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation after being auctioned online.

Separate eBay auctions listed the sails from all three of the champion’s Olympic campaigns, including Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and London 2012.

All proceeds will go towards the charity set up in memory of his close friend and fellow sailor Andrew Simpson who died in an accident last year while training for the America’s Cup.

The auction comes just a few weeks after thousands of sailors across the globe took part in Bart’s Bash, which set the new Guinness World Record for the Largest Sailing Race (24 hours).

Final results from the event showed that more than 30,000 people took to the water for Bart’s Bash on 21st September, with £290,621 having been raised so far.
