The RNLI were called out to assist the vessel which had become stuck amid heavy rain and very poor visibility
A yacht was grounded off the coast of
Liverpool on Friday amid large and choppy swells, very poor visibility and
force 6 winds.
Crew onboard the 27ft yacht contacted the
RNLI for help after getting stuck off the Queens channel on the approach to the
River Mersey.
Two lifeboats were launched around 6pm and
rescue teams were able to find the yacht in the dark.
An RNLI spokesperson said: “We eventually
found the yacht, which had managed to get afloat on the incoming tide, in a
dangerous position near to the Training Wall at the edge of the Queens channel
just off from the busy sea lane.
“We put crewman Stu Ward on board of the
yacht to assist the journey to Liverpool Marina.”
The two grateful crewmembers were escorted
to safety and the RNLI returned to their station around 9pm.
New Brighton’s lifeboat operations manager Graham
Sale said: “It was a difficult night for our crew, weather conditions were foul
and it was a long cold job.
“Dedication and training made it possible
for all to return safely as the outcome could have been radically different.
“No matter how well equipped it is
important to remember that if an unexpected and hazardous situation does arise
the sooner that emergency services are alerted the better as delay can compound
the situation.”
