Coast Guard recovers body in search for man whose boat capsized
Two men in a Canadian-style canoe got into difficulty resulting in a massive search effort.
Divers have recovered the body of a man who went missing when the canoe that he and another man were in capsized in Kenmare Bay in Ireland.
Coast Guard divers found the body Monday morning (1 February) following search efforts that spanned two days.
The other man in the boat managed to swim to shore where he raised an alarm and was subsequently treated for hypothermia.
The Castletownbere lifeboat was launched at 3pm on Sunday, but the search was stood down at 6:30pm due to rough seas.
Some 300 local people reportedly assisted the Coast Guard lifesavers and divers in the search operation Monday morning.
The two men were headed for Kellys islands from Templenoe Pier on a duck hunting trip when their canoe capsized in high winds.
Both men are believed to be from the Kenmare area on Ireland’s southwest coast. The man who died in the accident was reportedly in his 50s and the father of three children.
