Fire crews from Barnstaple and Braunton were sent to tackle the blaze on Tuesday evening

Emergency services were called out to a fierce boat blaze in Devon on Tuesday evening after multiple calls from the public alerted them to the fire.

Two crews from Barnstaple and one from Braunton were sent to the banks of the River Taw just after 9pm, with the boat well alight when they arrived.

Using two 70mm jets, the fire crews got to work tackling the blaze.

Shortly after 11pm the blaze was extinguished, with firefighters remaining on scene damping down.

Crews returned to the site in the early hours of Wednesday morning to continue dampening down hot spots and search the interior of the boat.

Luckily no one was on board the vessel at the time of the fire and the incident is now being investigated by both the police and fire service.
