A man’s life was saved by his wife when she held onto him for 30 minutes after he fell into the water at Port Solent marina

A man was rescued from the water at Port Solent after falling in during the early hours of New Year’s Day.

His wife spent 30 minutes holding onto his wrist before firefighters arrived to rescue him at 5am.

The 71-year-old suffered hypothermia as a result of the incident and was taken to hospital.

Watch manager Steve Pearce told Portsmouth News: “She was holding onto him, he’d been in the water for about 30 minutes before she managed to raise the alarm.

“We were mobilised and managed to pull him out. He was only semi-conscious really.”

“She was hanging onto his wrist from the pontoon alongside his boat. I think she was unlocking the boat and he fell off the pontoon itself”.
